Does NJSG offer second opinion?
North Jersey Spine Group welcomes the opportunity to give second opinions to individuals with spine conditions and brain conditions. We greatly appreciate the high rate of return after one of our consultations. Additionally, patients receive immediate comprehensive care, eliminating the need for referrals which prolongs the time to treatment.
What is the difference between a bulging, slipped or herniated disc?
Wear and tear on the body causes pressure on the spinal discs which can result in a bulging, slipped, or herniated disc. In the case of a bulging or slipped disc, the wall of the spinal disc thins allowing the disc to alter its shape. This change in shape can cause the disc to press against surrounding nerve structures. A herniated disc occurs when the internal contents of the disc protrude onto the nerve causing irritation, pain, and if severe enough, decrease movement.
How can I avoid surgery?
Our compassionate group of board-certified brain and spine neurosurgeons along with the physiatrist and pain management team, educate patients on their diagnosis and disease process. Our dedicated team of doctors ensures each patient understands their projected outcome. We take pride in explaining the most effective treatment options for each particular case and only use corrective surgical treatment as a last option.
What is minimally invasive spine surgery?
Minimally invasive spine surgery can be an elected treatment method for patients experiencing sciatica, herniated discs, degenerative disc disorder, spinal fracture, spinal tumors, bone spurs, spinal instability, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, and spondylolisthesis as well as lumbar and cervical pain.
What non-surgical options does NJSG provide?
Non-surgical spine care employs advanced treatments and therapies which can eliminate the need for surgery. North Jersey Spine Group offers treatment options that can range from strengthening pulled muscles through physical therapy to transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). Very often spine experts combine noninvasive options such as physical therapy, acupuncture, epidurals, injections, chiropractic maneuvers, and medications to optimize treatment.
How can I benefit from physical therapy?
Physical therapy is a viable treatment option for all individuals with muscle strain or decreased range of motion because of an injury, surgery, automobile accident, work-related injury, disease, or chronic pain. By way of exercise techniques, stretches and rehabilitation, patients learn how to manage their medical condition, as well as gain knowledge about precautionary measures to prevent further injury.
When should I visit a spine surgeon?
Often minor aches and pains of the muscles surrounding the spine can resolve on their own. The gradual or sudden onset of numbness, weakness, loss of motion, loss of bladder and bowel control, should not be ignored. We recommend patients schedule a visit when the neck or back symptoms interrupt daily activities.
